Jan 2 – Important Information Regarding the CDHM Interim IPC Guidance Document

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the CDHM created a COVID-19 Interim IPC Guidance document designed to assist registrants in providing safe quality oral care for patients while minimizing risk to themselves and their colleagues. Over the past two years, the document has undergone 6 revisions based on emerging evidence at the time. Today, COVID-19, specifically the Omicron variant, continues to be a health threat to our communities. The World Health Organization continues to provide COVID-19 direction for policy makers.

“Maintaining and improving infection and control (IPC) measures remain critical for patients, staff and visitors.”

Accordingly, the CDHM Interim IPC Interim Guideline remains the reference document for decision-making and risk mitigation when providing dental hygiene care.

Please note that the new Infection, Prevention & Control Practices document released by the Manitoba Dental Association in July 2022, will come into force on January 2nd, 2023. The CDHM was involved in the development of this document and has approved the content for use by CDHM registrants.

While this document describes standard precautions related to IPC, the CDHM Interim COVID-19 IPC Guidance document remains as the reference document until further notice.

If you have any questions regarding the documents please contact the College office.

Kind Regards,
