From Benign to Malignant: Top 10 Oral Pathology Findings Every Clinician Should Know

This presentation will provide a brief exploration of common oral pathology findings, ranging from benign to malignant lesions. We will cover the diagnosis and management of various benign conditions, including oral ulcerations, lichen planus, geographic tongue, pigmented lesions, and orofacial swellings and lumps.  The session will conclude with a focus on pre-malignant and malignant lesions, including leukoplakia and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), highlighting red flags for clinicians to watch for as well as brief discussion on management and treatment strategies.

About Dr Kadhim
Dr. Mohamad Kadhim is a board-certified specialist in Oral Medicine & Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, as well as a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.  Currently, he holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Diagnostic & Surgical Sciences at the University of Manitoba, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as residents.

Dr. Kadhim’s educational journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Manitoba.  Following this, he served four years in the Canadian Forces in Winnipeg and Shilo.  He obtained a dental degree from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in 2019.  Driven by a passion for dentistry, medicine and pathology, he completed a four-year hospital residency program in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital.

Dr. Kadhim has returned to Winnipeg, where he is eager to serve his community.
