Please find below important updates and resources on the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
Renewal
As you know, the Government of Canada has begun its annual reassessment earlier this month for CDCP clients. A new factsheet on Renewals is available in the Stakeholder Toolkit, highlighting important information on the renewal process intended to help oral health providers and their staff.
Preauthorization
Additionally, there is now a new section on the website regarding preauthorizations and available resources at Canadian Dental Care Plan providers: Preauthorization resources
Expansion to all eligible Canadians
As announced on March 22 by the Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Health, beginning in May 2025, applications will open to all eligible Canadian residents of all ages. Their coverage could start as early as June 1, 2025, but may vary as the start date will be based on when the application is received and when the enrolment is completed.
Applications will open in phases by age group according to the following timeline:
- May 1: 55 to 64 years old
- May 15: 18 to 34 years old
- May 29: 35 to 54 years old
Note: As of May 1, 2025, applicants deemed eligible will receive a letter from the Government of Canada confirming their eligibility under the plan. If eligible for coverage, the letter will also include their CDCP member ID, coverage start date and co-payment. New CDCP clients will also receive a welcome package from Sun Life with a physical member card but do not need to wait for their physical card to get care, as long as they bring their letter confirming their eligibility to their appointment.
The Government of Canada will also send letters to Canadian residents aged 18 to 64 who may be eligible based on their 2024 adjusted family net income, encouraging them to apply.
